Week of 9/10-9/16 (3rd post of the 1st 9 Wks)

Last week’s posts look great!  It seems like most of you are getting the hang of things quickly.

So this time I want you to focus your replies a bit differently. Take a look at this question:

Compare and contrast the British, French, and Spanish imperial goals in North America between 1580 and 1763. What factors helped or hindered each  power?

This week everyone should have different answers. Please focus on one or two of these imperial powers and give a specific example that hasn't been used by a classmate. You will not get credit for repeating something a classmate has said.

Have a great week!

  1. English and the Spanish in North America have their reasons in coming there.

Some of the Spanish goals in North America were to expand Catholicism using missionaries so the Protestants won't take over, and to conquer the control of natural resources. They needed natural resources such as spices, minerals, and land.

English migrants came to America for two main reasons. The first reason was tied to the English Reformation. King Henry VIII broke with the Catholic Church in the 1530s. Through a series of political and religious twists and turns, the new Church of England developed a Protestant theology, but it retained much of Catholic liturgy and ritual forms.
The second reason for English colonization was that land in England had become scarce. They needed land for their population that was steadily growing.

    1. But wasn't the English also looking for riches as well. They were so jealous of how wealthy the Spanish were getting that at the beginning of Colonizing the Americas, they were only worried about finding minerals then food itself.

    2. I agree with Joe, with Britain's population overcrowding the country at the time, the populace had to withdraw to new vacant lands. I also agree with Raquel, the English were envious of Spain's wealth and power. However, I disagree with Raquel's statement on how the English were preoccupied with finding precious minerals first instead of food. The English actually worried about surviving in the wilderness by themselves with out any knowledge of the New World. After settling in New England, the English embarked on accomplishing their imperial goals in the New World.

  2. Firstly, these three superpowers of Europe all sought to achieve the 3 G's, gold, god, and glory. Each individual country desired to gain fortunes in the form of precious metals, preferably gold. The Spanish, however, were more fortunate to find overwhelming amounts of gold in present-day South America, which exceeded Britain's and France's findings in their own imperial territories of the Americas. Both Spain and France strived to convert the heathens of the Americas to Catholicism. The English Pilgrims, however, fled to the Americas to seek religious freedom and escape religious persecution of their home country. Furthermore, these three countries also sought land to conquer so they could gain new trade routes, obtain exotic goods, and have sovereignty over the natives of the land, therefore gaining more money by taxing the natives and trading goods. Spain, at the time, wanted to prove their superiority over Britain and France by demonstrating how much land they possess under their rule.

    2. England was also there for overpopulation. They have a past of sending people to foreign countries as a punishment. So, even with them shipping the criminals, they still had alot of people. That is another factor that led to the colonization of America and also the migration from other countries like Germany, Switz. and other countries. I just thought i would input that.

They also looked to expand their land and gain more power. Each country was attempting to prove their superiority among each other. Other than that you're answer was good.

  4. To begin with all of the nations in Europe were mainly attracted by the new trade routes, land expansion, and useful resources.
There weren't many french settelers. The few that did settle were in the nothern part of the new world trading fur. They were known for keeping a friendship with the indians. They didn't look to forcefully gain any indian land. They were focused on the economic gain from trade.
The spanish began their settlements in central america and developed plantations where the indians worked as slaves. Spain attempted to conquer the indians from the start. They tried to forcefully convert the indians way of life and religion. They were interested in land expansion and the spread of catholicism.
British settelers were somewhat like spanish, they gained wealth from their tobacco plantations and used indians as well for their production. They on the other hand used indians as "servants". British immigrants increased because of their fear of enjailment or persecution. Soon the population was too big and the British took the natives land. Britian was late in the game of exploring and setteling in the new land but soon surpassed the French and Spanish.

  5. As we all know the Spanish and English had many reasons to take part in this ever growing world. One thing they seemed always to go head to head with was religion being how Spanish was heavily "catholic" and English was heavily "christian". Although they weren't violent, the various missionaries did compete to convert. This ,in turn, lead to a lot of religious separation through out many parts of north America. The Spanish also would seek many precious metals that were found along the mountains of modern day Mexico. This was a draw back since there was a lot of focus on Mexico instead of expanding from Texas which is a good reason why they lost Texas so easily. With the English constantly taking land they had this belief of Manifest Destiny which lead to exponential growth fairly quickly. The Spanish had little time to react leading too much favor towards the English.

    1. I agree with you for the most part, although I don't think the main goal of the English was to convert other people. You said the English were Christian, but weren't they Catholic, just like the Spanish? Before the Protestant reformation, at least. I agree with everything else in your response though.

      Delete
    2. That is correct but I do think that it did leave its mark because if you think about it. Now a days you can tell exactly where the influence of Christianity was and Catholicism. Even though it isn't something that causes separation you can see through out Houston we have a mixture of many catholic churches as well as christian churches.

  8. Spanish wanted to get to the gold, they wanted laborers and spices they were all about wealth. They also wanted to change the nation to Catholics, the protestant reformation. British goals were to find land and settle, hoping to eventually become wealthy they just wanted the money. The Spanish and British seen the weakness of indians and knew they could take over. As for the French they wanted to become very big in trade routes they didnt plan on over taking one culture they wanted to help themselves since there wasnt alot of french settlers. The way both Spanish and British were ready to take over helped alot but ended up hurting the Spanish anyways in the Spanish armada defeat. The French i believe were not as strong.

  10. The British, French and Spanish were all after the strange resources in Asia, but none could find the short route to get there. England and Spain were having a religious clash (Protestant vs. Catholic), so they intended to spread their major religion to the new found world. All 3 empires had the goal "mineral wealth" in mind when they set out to explore. England was more concerned with where to settle their growing population and when their peace treaty with Spain was signed, they had no problem competing against them. England colonized parts of The Americas and searched for raw materials. The Spanish Armada was the strongest of the 3 empires. The armada collected any kind of wealth they could rather than to colonize. Their other goal was to spread their Spanish culture to Native American tribes. Last, but not least The French. France's main goals were exploring land, finding gold and other minerals, and also the spread of Roman Catholicism.

    1. I agree with you about the goals of the British and the Spanish because they did wanted wealth, and to spread their religions since their was a battle going on between the Catholics and the Protestants. Unfortunatly, I disagree with you in the French goals because they were really not that interested on gold but on the trading of fur. Also they didn't have a huge impact in the spreading of their religion which was Catholicism.

  11. British, French, and Spanish imperial goals were all different but they all 3 wanted control over resources. For example Spain expand catholicism (missionaries), conquer to gain control of resources, restrict French occupation of the Americas, reduce the influence of the Ottoman empire. While,France spread catholicism, gain control of mineral and other resources. An England spread the English culture, and wanted control over resources.

  12. Countries in Europe looked to find gold and other metals and spices in the new world. They wanted glory for colonizing and expanding their rein.
England began colonizing in the new world because of the land. Population in England was booming and they needed a place to send all of the people who no longer fit. Some pilgrims fled from religious persecution.
Spain on the other hand was more pushy about religion, they wanted the natives to believe in the catholic church and practice their faith. They were also afraid that the protestants would take over the natives and convert them first. Spain wanted to change their culture and take over their land. The natives were used as slaves and were treated very badly when not cooperative. The spanish colonized in order to surpass England and France. Both countries also looked for new trade routes and such things as spices and like said before metals.

  13. The British, French, and Spanish each had their own imperial goals for North America. The Spanish were mostly motivated by the desire to spread their culture and acquire more land. The British and French had a bit more in common because they were both actively searching for the elusive north-west passage. Spain had a strong military, which really helped them when it came to conquering the Indians and spreading their culture. Britain was going through a religious reformation, which made it difficult for the crown to control their colonies.

  15. Britain, France and Spain all competed for land in the New World. Between the years of 1480 and 1763, they all had similar and distinct imperial goals and motives. Europeans used the new lands as sources of precious metals. Like the French, the English sailed to the New World in search of a short route to Asia. Other motives hat the English had was to find raw materials for their industrial economy and mercantilism. They also needed to establish colonies, acquire precious metals, and maintain a positive balance of trade for mercantilism. Britain and France were rivals because they fought for control and power of North America. Spanish and the French wanted to explore as much land as possible in hope of finding wealth with gold and a shortcut to Asia. They also wanted to convert Native Americans to Roman Catholicism. Spain's primary goal was to establish and defend a mercantilist policy. Another goal was to impose Spanish culture and religion.

  16. The French's main goal for colonizing in North America was for its resources, mainly land. The wanted to find sea routes, build their agricultural industries, and establish trading posts to trade with ohter countries. They always had the intention of landing in the Americas, since other countries had landed their already. They had little interest of spreading their culture, except when it came to spreading teir christian faith, but they never tried to truly enforce it as much as the spanish explorers.
The Spanish, on the other hand, never intended on landing in North America. Rumors were spread around Spai that there were many riches in the Indies and Asia, and Spain wanted a piece of it. Christopher Columbus sailed to find the Indies, but instead landed in the Americas. They were in search of gold and spices, but were not able to find any. Also, unlke France, the Spaniards wanted to enforce their culture and Catholic religion upon the natives. They felt that God gave them the duty to convert the Native Americans.

    1. I agree that the Spanish arrived at the Americas by accident, while the others did not. They did in fact, hear the stories of awestricken riches, which served the purpose of creating that "Glory" for Spain.
Unfortunately that "Glory", became their downfall, for as you said everyone "wanted a piece of it". If it took having their Spanish Armada defeated, well oh well. They must not have seen that one coming.

  17. The British and the French two imperial powers that with their arrival to the North American continent hoped to gain territory, exploit new trade routes, influnce the religions of the Native Americans, and acquire wealth. But individually each had its own plans.
With the arrival of the first British to North America and after learing about the fertile land and the things that grew their, more British started coming for the crops. Also, most of the English(puritans) migrated to ecape religious persecution, and improve their economy. The English settled along the Atlantic coast in Native American territory which gave them easy access to the water for trade with mother England. At first they were less bloddy towards the Natives and who would of know that this would prove to be afactor against them in the future(French and Indian War).
In the otherhand the French came for fur and seeked social betterment with their main focus being trade. The French settled in the very north of the North American continent along Quebec a plce mostly isolated giving themno problems with the natives. Fortunatly, for the French the natives became their allies who along with them in the future would fight against England.

  18. One English goal for colonization was finding a solution to the problem of primogeniture. If only the eldest son would receive an inheritance from their family, how would the other young men of the family collect their wealth? Well, these wealthy and adventurous young men set forth on their journey to the Americas in search of their own wealth. They established Joint Stock Companies and used the finances to sail to the Americas and settle while they searched for the means of repaying the investors. This would let to the search for riches or profitable trades.
The Spanish leaned more to a seize and plunder. They arrived at the Americas by mistake, for they were actually searching for India and China. However, they took advantage of what they had before them, a people what was generous. They took from these natives, their riches. All they gold and silver they could find to bring back to their beloved Spain.
After the Spanish had an economic crash caused by the inflation due to the silver and gold from the Americas, they no longer could afford to compete with the English in the West Indies, leading the English to settle in Barbados with the prospect of planting sugar cane as a cash crop.
Both the English and the Spanish took to agriculture. However, the English exceeded the Spanish in this aspect. They developed tobacco and sugar cane as cash crops.
Spain however was the first in creating the encomienda system of agriculture. This was similar to the plantation system of the English. Both required a larger number of workers. This became the beginning of slavery. Slavery becomes part of the triangular trade that both the English and the Spanish are a part of where the mother country is enriched by its colonies. This goes to show that both the English and the Spanish sought to enrich their home lands by exploiting other lands like the Americas. Each accomplishing it in their own way.

  19. The initial goals of the Spanish were to find a new way to get to Asia and trade with them, but when they landed in uncharted islands their goals changed. Like not only did they look for spice but they also wanted gold as well as anything that would have a value in trade. After learning that the natives didn't practice Catholicism they wanted to spread their religion as well as their culture. At the same time they wanted to claim land to become more powerful than rival countries. A factor that helped them get to their riches was the natives they claimed as slaves, but those same natives made it difficult for them to gain land and power.
As for the English's goals they wanted to keep in competition with other countries like with power and land. They also wanted things of value but not as much as the Spanish, they wanted to spread their culture more. Yet they had the same thing slowing them down for reaching their goals as the Spanish, Natives.

    1. You are entirely correct but there is one thing you left out that kept the colonists from spreading as much. The barrier known as the appalachian mountains which for obvious reasons kept them from expanding. Remember mountains were difficult to get past since they had to travel by foot or wagon.

  20. British and Spain both share the fact that they settled in North America due to religious reasons. Although the Spanish had more on their agenda, the Europeans main reason for settling in North America was to seek religious freedom. At that time, the Protestant Reformation as well as Calvinism was beginning to form and take a toll. Soon, both spread to England, Calvinism overruling the Protestant Reformation. Because of the Puritans beliefs, they decided to break from the church and settle in North America where they could "live and die as protestants." A factor that helped them was that there were many people seeking this freedom and not just one, making the colonization more possible.
Spain on the other hand had various reasons to colonize North America. One of the reasons was to seek wealth, that being gold, slaves, spices, etc. They wanted all of these precious items. Another reason was to promote the Catholic faith. Although they were competing with the Protestant Reformation, they wanted to convert the Native Americans. Lastly, they wanted to expand their Spanish Empire and owning more land. Some of the factors that hindered them were that there wasn't much gold, there was competition between England and France, and spreading Catholicism caused many differences.

  21. Power and territory were imperial goals the British, French and Spanish had. These two were the reasons they went out into the new world after it was discovered. They were driven by the want of fame. Product of the soil also played a big role in the colonization of North America. Spain and portugal started planting tobacco and soon also had sugar plantations. The English focused mainly on tobacco and rice. Rice increased the need for slave labor because the African Americans knew how to cultivate rice and were a cheap source of labor. ofcourse in Gerogia the climate and restrictions on slavery made it extra hard to be successful in the rice cultivation.

  22. One of the British, Spanish, and French goals was to explore land for riches, like gold. Both the French and the English sailed to the New World in hopes to find a short route to Asia. Other English motives were re-paying investors who helped boost companies and settlement as well as finding raw materials to support England's economy. Both the Spanish and the French tried converting the Native Americans into Catholics. Initially, Spain wanted to explore the New World to find mineral wealth and use it for it’s own benefit. Later, the Spanish became very powerful in the Western Hemisphere.

  24. Wealth, power, and territorial expansion were all imperial goals for britain, french, and spanish. Britain also had the goals for spices to use for the foods that taste badly after a while. Tobacco and rice were the two main focuses for britain because it was in such high demand from alot of people and the soil and land of the americas was perfect for growing such a product. Growing those products were even that much easier because of the use of the native americans as agricultural slaves. Speaking of the slaves, they were alson a factor because the slaves were sold back in britain and used as a piece of material that was traded in the triangular trade that was formed by the americas britain and africa. Solutary neglect was also a factor because although it was undocumented it still made those who built colonies in the americas loyal to britain.

  32. The British imperial goals was mainly to spread the British culture . Britain was getting a bit too crowded and the only way to solve that problem was to send people off to other lands . This lead to the establishment of the 13 colonies in North America. Some saw this as an escape to seek for freedom of religion. A factor that hindered the British was the harsh weather that killed many of the settlers. Spain's imperial goals was to expand catholicism (missionaries) , gain control of more resources and land ,to increase the power of their monarch. They wanted to restrict French occupation of the Americas so their reign wouldn't grow more power. The Spanish also wanted to reduce the influence of the Ottoman Empire.Indians was a factor that seemed to have helped the Spanish by becoming their slaves and giving up their goods by force to the Spanish . France wanted to spread catholicism as well and gain control of mineral and other natural resources . They were Spain's main opponents. France was not able to do much since when they arrived most of the land was already taken by the Spanish and English.

  33. The same goal these 3 nations had in come was the goal to expand their power, and of course gain riches out of conquering new lands.

But with the English it was not just the hope of gaining wealth/fame. For the people, the new colonies represented freedom. A way to escape the new religion,The Church of England, that majority of people did not tolerate. Not to mention the fact that the population was increasing and many were running out of land.
The Natives were a huge problem in trying to conquest America. They did not respect the colonist invading their villages and stripping them of their resources.
Also the problem with religion came about. Many people, those who left Britain b/c of The Church of England, grouped together and formed towns. But these towns were very intolerant of other beliefs, and banned those who either didn't believe or question their faith. So the real issue in the Colonies was religion.

The French, spanish and English goals were some what alike they all wanted to discover gold and expand their religion. Another big topic these countrys talked about was gain new territory. One of the difference that spoke out to me about this three countrys was they treated the native americans very different for example Spain trested them very brutally, while French became their allies and England was the nicest of them all.

    1. Now this is very true im glad you said this. Not sure why people say the Spanish would try to work with the natives. At one tiny point in time did they did try to somewhat work with the natives but for the Spanish to implement such things as ecomienda shows how much they really cared.

  36. When I think of the British, French and Spanish goals, money and religion come to mind. All three wanted to expand something of their own. The all wanted to gain resources and spread their own cultures. Spain and France wanted to spread religion as well. Spain was probably the French and British biggest competition. Spain was always superior and always seemed to have the most power so that would count as something that hindered the French and British. There was only so far they could expand without Spain over ruling them in a way.

  37. The Spanish and English had many reasons to come to north America but in the beginning of colonization the Spanish were superior. They already had control over the native Americans and their land. They managed to find gold and other valuable things and sent them back to Spain on a ship they passed by. They converted native Americans to their religion. Ultimately the big thing was the that Spanish empire grew.
On the other hand, the English colonized the northeast area of America. It also wasn't mainly because they wanted to grow English power but because they wanted a better life. They wanted to practice their religion as Puritans and not be punished for it and also better economy. They were organized and and established a colony.

  38. The British and the Spanish imperial goals were to find gold, glory and to spread religion through God.
The Spanish sailed to find gold and landed in the americas, they found no gold but set up their own town called Jamestown. There they found the Indians and made them their slaves. the town began to over populate hindering. There was unemployment and the overpuplated town began to have a huge problem with disease. Both the spanish and the british had a huge problem with desease and this stopped the from continuing to do their work with their newly agricultural industries. Tobacco and rice were huge industires in trading sytems between the two but with the disease there would be no workers to help them. The search fro reliogious freedom was also searched for since there was the Proteatnts and the catholics. The catholics wanted everyone to follow their beliefs disallowing the disfollowers to worship their gods. So the pretestants searched for their own freedom.

  39. The Spanish, French, and English had similar goals, but they also had different goals. All three came to Americas to expand their empires. They wanted to gain as much land as possible so they could have they upper hand on each other. Spain was the first to do this. When they arrived they conquered the Native Americans. They took their land and took the Natives. The Spanish also wanted to change the ways of the Native Americans by converting them to their religion. They built many missionaries to help this cause. England came as well to conquer and get more land, but they also came to seek religious freedom. Puritans came in order to establish the religions they believed in. They weren't as vicious as the Spanish were. They also established colonies

  40. The British, Spanish, and French each had their own imperial goals for North America. The English(puritans) migrated to the Atlantic coast to improve their economy and to have a better access to water for their new land. After learing about the fertile land and the things that grew there, more British started migrating there for the crops and natural resources. The French, in the other hand, settled North of the American continent along Quebec. They were very isolated, giving them no problems what so ever with the natives. Fortunatly, for the French, the natives became French's allies who later on would fight against England.

  41. All three of the European superpowers wanted the same things. GOD, GLORY, AND GOLD. I believe that the Spanish and the English had mostly the same reasons in colonizing the new world. The only difference between the Spanish and English was that the English came to begin a new life, whereas the Spanish wanted power. The Spanish demoralized the natives on the land whereas the English befriended them and worked with them to survive

  42. The British, Spanish, and French came with the 3 basic goals in mind. Those goals were god, gold, and glory. They still had many other seperate goals in mind. The Puritans came with more of a religious spread in mind. They wanted their word of God to be spread throughout the land. The Spanish wanted o take land on their voyage. They did but they didnt know the struggles that were to come when founding Jamestown. They were caught off guard with the spread of disease. As they later found out, Jamestown did not have any gold. While the British cam more power hungry. They wanted land and they were going to get it. They took the natives land and to add insult to injury they also started taking slaves. Each of these three big powers had different ways and motives to reach their goals.

    1. Yes, they all wanted wealth, but what was specific about each of their desires? I know Britain and France focused on mercantilism as a useful economic tactic, but I think the Spanish focused of gaining resources as well as any other profit they could make while in the process.

  44. Imperial goals, was each nation's purpose for sending troops, ships, etc to North America. However, each country also had their own ‘’Method’’ of doing so. Spain was basically in search of god, gold and glory. This is basically the expansion of Christianity, Conquer the land for its resources, and put in high power the name of Spain. To do this they took the America’s by force. They fought the natives until they were defeated and claimed the land as Spain property. They made their settlements all over their ‘’New Land’’. I Would say that the British had a different way of acquiring just about the same thing. They brought many of their religions along with them (Pilgrims) and they also seeked to spread British influence like the Spaniards. However, the difference is that the british didn’t conquest the America’s as harshly as the Spaniards. I Believe that one factor that hindered both of these countries is their power status at that time. Spain was at the top of the power chain in that time and therefore had more help to make their goals easier obtained.

  45. Both Spain and France wanted to spread the catholic religion. They all wanted to gain land reasources and spread their word of God. Some being way more religious than others (puritans). The puritans weren't as focused on ''getting rich quick'' like Spain. They were more about attaining land and keeping their community very ''saintly''. Spain and France both sought out resources by conquering and taking it by force while the French traded with the natives. England really didn't do anything that is well remembered but what all countries have in common is that they all spread their culture as they were there.

  46. All three, British, French, and Spanish's profound goal and common goal in North America was of course enlightening individual on their specific religion gaining followers in their right way of life. Economically, the British associated the exporting of goods from tobacco(main product) to any other raw products. The French focused on trade with the Native Americans, fur from Quebec, and had little use for native manual labor. The British specified on the labor from slaves, primarily gaining profits from raw goods.

  48. Both the Spanish and British came for different and similar reasons. The Spanish goal was to spread Catholicism throughout the New World and convert the Native Americans. The Spanish also came to in order to get rich off of the abundant amount of gold that was supposedly there.
The British came to North America mostly to get rich quick. They heard of the gold there was, and they thought they may be able to get rich off of the gold. Some British colonists also came because they wanted a separation from the Church of England. The Puritans thought that the church was corrupt so they moved to New England to escape the Church of England.

    1. I agree with you Samuel. I also see you have pointed out the three G's that were most important during this time. Everyone was after the gold that was being found throughout the world. The spread of religion was very important to these religious people. They all wanted to be glorious.

  49. The Spanish wasn't worried about the goals of the English. Spanish main goal was to spread the Catholic religion. Also, spices were critical for food and everyone was after that. English was after land because it was becoming scarce. English wasn't worried about religion, but needed land. The English were after glory. Everyone was after treasures and exploration. It was, and still is, all about wealth and fortune. The word of God was one of the most important items to spread throughout the world. The three G's were, of course, the MOST important to everyone. God, gold, glory.

  50. God, Gold, and Glory were major similarities of the British, Spanish, and French. But differences were British wanted power and the Puritans wanted to spread their religious beliefs to have one uniform religion, Spanish wanted to get as much land as they felt they needed, and the French wanted to spread their goods to expand their trade market economy.

    1. But in the end its all about Who has the most of what. People want the glory of showing off. Even if the Subject is religion they can bask in the glory of having all people in their one uniform religion. Land would be equal to the amount of power you have, in the older days people would rate the amount of power they had in the amount of land.

  51. Many of the goals of these European countries were similar. Conquer, spread culture and gain land. The Spanish wanted to find land and gold as many know (Columbus) and eventually spread the religion of Catholicism to rival the British. The British of course wanted the spread of religion and to gain the land in America for further English control. The French however, wanted land, but also wanted to utilize the land for minerals and gold. As different some of the reasons were, much of it had to do with the control of land which caused much competition.

  52. The goals for each of the countries that came over here to the Americas was simple gold, God and glory. Britain, Spain and France all wanted the fortune, they would come and find mind metals but they would most likely just search for gold. Britain went to the Americas so they can have religious freedom, Spain and France went so they can convert americans into their own religion. Simply glory, well who didnt want to have glory? Each country went to the americas for more power and for more land. Spain wanted to show Britain they're more powerful and France wanted to show how much more they land they had.

  53. The reason to conquer and to invade a new territory and even fight for it is the resources. Even now we see the United states fighting for oil, and other resources. The main reason the French, Spanish, and the English came to North America was to claim the resources. Back then a main priority too was the religion, spreading "The Word of God" was a big factor in many cultures. Gold was also in many peoples mind.

Spain wanted to expand Catholicism (Missionaries, gain control of the resources, prevent French occupation in America and to reduce the influence of the Ottoman Empire. Whew, take it easy Spain. France, much like Spain wanted to spread Catholicism and gain control minerals and other resources. As for England, they wanted to spread the English Culture. Thus, concluding each countries Imperial Goals in North America. Tune in next time.

  56. The spanish wanted land and valuables such as gold and other precious materials that would bring money to their country from the Americas. While the English wanted land for the mother country to have teh land and use it to their benefit. One factor that may have hindered the use of the land by the English was the unfair treatment of the colonists which caused them to become independent. The spanish were kept in a position so that they're land was nearly taken by the colonies.
