The southern colonies were known for plantations. The slaves would work all day in the tobacco, rice, or indigo fields. Economically they used their farming to make alot of money. They raised their own crops and harvested their own food, then traded it among other countries or colonies. Socially they set a social rank among themselves. Slaves were a big part of the south. The seperation between the upper and lower classes made a hug difference when it came to decisions the colonies made. Politically the wealthy white men had the power. If you were a slave you more than likely had no say in anything. The south was shaped with slavery and other cruelty.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your comment because you really depicted what the southern colonies were all about. They were known mostly for their large plantations and slave ownership. You could really tell the upper class apart from the lower class in this section of the United States.
DeleteI agree with Camelia about the southern colonies being well know for its Plantations. Both the Southern and Middle colonies were known for tobacco plantations and exporting it to England where it was at huge demand.
DeleteI loved how you said how Slaves were a big part of the south. Because in reality, it was true. They did all of the work, without a good pay, at that. Its terrible how the slave owners would treat their workers like that.
Deletei agree. The Europeans needed the slaves unlike the Native Americans. The African Americans were the only ones that knew how to cultivate crops like rice which was grown in Africa and provided a cheap source of labor.
DeleteI agree with you and the fact that they split the classes like that. Slaves were objects and weren't even looked like as humans.
DeleteI also agree with how you said slavery was a major part in the colony. I believe they played a major role in it.
DeletePolitically most of the power went to the wealthy plantation owners. Which was unfair but thats the way it was.
DeleteThe Southern Colonies were lands in the New World that were once under the rule of the English monarchy. The colonists of the time mainly focused on extensively producing cash crops, especially tobacco and cotton, so they could trade their raw materials for manufactured goods from their motherland and also earn profits as well. Since cash crops were grown in massive bulks in the Southern Colonies, a large labor force was needed to work in the fields. The colonists, however, were seeking cheap labor so slaves were bought to work in the large plantations of the Southern Colonies. Additionally, these two factors contributed to the development of the Columbian Exchange Triangle. The Southern Colonies were agrarian based societies that had plantation systems integrated into their communities. Plantations also played a significant role in politics, for plantation owners had more political power than the commoners and slaves of the land because power tended to fall into the hands of land owners, ergo the wants and needs of the plantation owners were the laws of the land.
ReplyDeletei agree with you edgar. They did focus on crops, tobacco, and cotton because that's where they get money from. The columbian exchange also helped them alot with trading. And this made a huge impact in the colonies.
DeleteI agree with you Edgar. The south grasped their success through farming and trading. Cheap labor helped enlarge their income as well.
DeleteI also agree with you Edgar in that in the south, the people who had their own land, crops, plantations, had more political power than anybody else. I Actually learned something from what you wrote. I didn't know that the Southern colonies where once under the control of the English Monarchy. Thanks for teaching me something new. :)
DeleteThe colonies in the New England region had different reasons and impacts in the region. Some of the most important social impacts were strong religious and social conformity, puritanism was a huge influence, and the puritan revolution. Some economic factors were high priced goods, fish was #1 export, and trade. And for political, the West India Company tried too control the New York colony and the quakers have conflicts with the English government.
ReplyDeleteyou listed very good, detailed factors! Definitely i agree with you when you said that one of the economic factors were high priced goods. This was the outcome from poor agriculture.
DeleteAna Mendoza
dont forget that they prospered in the timber industry, since the soil was crappy!
DeleteThe middle colonies had rich soil and a mild climate, which made it easy for them to grow wheat and other grains. They soon became major exporters of these crops and were known as "the bread basket colonies". This was their most profitable crop. This region also became very socially diverse, as a result of their freedom of religion. Religious tolerance was very unheard of at that time, so it really characterized the middle colonies. The political groups in this area started out small and very narrow minded, but once the French and Indian war began, they evolved into very diverse and large political organizations. Many Middle Colony constitutions guaranteed freedom of religion and no taxation without representation.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your comment because you were the first one to point of the fact that due to the major growth and exportation of wheat and/or grain of the Middle colonies they became known as the "Bread Basket Colonies."
DeleteSouthern Colonies
ReplyDeleteE- the southern had a decent climate which allowed them to plant cash crops such as tobacco and cotton. Most of the south made money through food
S-Since most people made money through mostly farming the south was mostly country. They needed someone to pick the fields so they brought slaves from Africa to do this work. Unlike the north the south had a small population(not counting the slaves) in which small families lived
P-Since the slaves had no power the farmers of the south had all the control in the south. Since the slaves had no power, and most whites depended on slavery it didn't seem possible that the slaves could be freed.
In the Middle Colonies in particular Virginia Tobacco contributed greatly to it's economic, social, and political values. Tobacco gave Virginia a firm economic foundation, they exported it to England, colonist bought as much land as they could in order to plant even more tobacco. Tobacco caused Virginia to be well know for it's plantations, it had colonists concentrated in only planting it. James I detested tobacco and also distrusted House of Burgesses, he revoked the charter and beleaguered Virginia Company making Virginia a royal colony directly under his control.
ReplyDeleteGood response Joceline. I like the fact that you emphasized Virginia, not the whole region in general. I would also like to add that due to the constant planting of tobacco, the soil got exhausted quickly, which caused the settlers to use more land for tobacco than any other crop.
DeleteIt was a good response and did you know that Virginia was the first successful southern colony.
DeleteVery well written response Joceline. Virginia was the most successful Southern colony, and I'm glad that you emphasized that. Tobacco was the most important factor in Virginia causing Virginia to progress.
DeleteThe middle colonies were called the "bread basket" colonies becuase of the large exports of grain.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that the middle colonies had large exports of grain increased the demand for cheap labor, and also their lands were vast which helped them boost the economy.
The middle colonies were more diverse, and contained more religious diversity than the southern or New England colonies.
The religious or property qualifications for voted existed in all colonies in 1775.
I agree with you!
DeleteThe fact that the colonies didn't have to rely on others to get lost of their goods sounds great!
Yes, I agree that the middle colonies were more religious. Also they were diverse in ethnicity.
DeleteThe Middle Colonies economy was based on cash crops.Agriculture in the Middle Colonies included corn, vegetables, grain, fruit and livestock. They also manufactured iron ore products.Middle Colonies were commercial and trade oriented. This colonies had ethnic diversity among them. The middle colonies had environmental factors that allowed them to have a Descant economy. In political factors the Plantation or crops owners were the wealthy men in this colonies.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, Marlon, but each of the middle colonies had a different type of government. However, the wealthy, had control of the power.
DeleteThe Middle Colonies were very well known for their heavy grain exports. Due to fertile soil and the large expanse of land and how easily they could own a piece of it, the settlers grew their grain crops and were known as the "bread colonies" or the "bredbasket colonies".
ReplyDeleteThe social factor that impacted and distinguished the Middle Colonies was the fact that this region was the most ethnically mixed. Their population was more ethnically mixed than any other settlement. Since there was more religious tolerance than the other two regions (New England and Southern), all kinds of believers were welcomed to settle.
When it comes to politics, the factor that impacted the Middle Colonies was that they built their own Colonial Assemblies and were ruled mostly by Proprietary Govenors, instead of being ruled completely by the English Monarchy.
I agree with Yajaira, the Middle Colonies were best known for the grain cash crops they grew. The Middle Colonies were indeed the most diverse since they were the most tolerant of others beliefs. In fact, their tolerance for other religions attracted many different religious groups of people, even Jews resided in the Middle Colonies. The "Breadbasket Colonies" were mostly ruled independent of the English monarchy, they wanted to govern themselves in the New World. A sense of self-government in the Middle Colonies, in turn, helped contribute to the independence movement of the Colonies.
DeleteI like how you included in the ethnically mixture that the Middle Colonies had. I thought the same thing as Edgar as well about how the Middles Colonies's openness made others feel welcome. It seems sort of like a cycle kind of thing with people being attracted there.
DeleteVery well written :)
DeleteI agree that having tolerance for others allows them to live better. If only the everyone could be tolerant!
The New England colonies had terrible farming conditions. Rocky soil, below 32 degrees weather, not a substantial amount of rain, lazy farmers, all led to the end of the cash crops in the upper colonies. Because of their poor agriculture necessities, they needed something else besides growing corn and potatoes.
ReplyDeleteSo what could they do to contribute to the sake of the colonies?
The answer is Manufacturing.
They begin fishing as another way to contribute to the economy. The fish were the "Cash Crop". As well as lumber, top-of-the-notch ships, textiles and much more. This helped the Starving Colonies get money so they could start trading.
Manufacturing really helped socially, manufacturing leads to the rise in technology, and the form of classes. The rich class owned the factories, the middle class, in terrible conditions, worked in them, and the lower class starved. But they began to trade with other countries for what they need and this helped them greatly.
Politically, the Rise of Manufacturing was a rise in politics. They started using taxes, in which, the money was given to the State for future generation buildings. It led to a better, stabilized, government.
I like how you pointed out the fact that they had terrible farming conditions. The only option they was Manufacturing.
DeleteI like you gave great detail of everything going on.
DeleteVery nicely worded! It is also accturate information, due to the different regions, they had to find something to make profit unlike the middle and southern colonies that had good climates and good soil.
DeleteThe New England colonies didn't have rich soil but did have mild climates, so the things they relied on most was trade. They traded fish, fur, rum, molasses and other things. Social factors were religious freedom but life usually centered around Puritan Religion. Political factors were that the New England colonies were smarter that the Southern colonies, a lot cleaner and were expected to live 10 years longer.
ReplyDeleteI like that you said that they didn't have arable soil because the desire for rich soil was a factor that made them want to expand.
DeleteThey also relied on their timber and grain mills to maintain a stable economy.
DeleteThe New England colonies were very different from the other colonies because due to their lack of fertile soil and arable land the colonists couldn't farm, it was just too difficult. So then, they got involved in the industry of shipbuilding, and fishing which eventually led to trading. The New England colonies exported massive amounts of fish to the Catholic countries of Europe and the West Indies, making them large profits.
ReplyDeleteNow, socially the New England colonies were mostly based around religion, specifically the Puritan. Due to this the clergymen were first in the ranking of social classes, then came the white men who owned small farms and businesses, and last were the very few slaves.
Last but not least, politically the New England colonies were controlled by the laws of the Puritans. The democracy they practiced in the Congregational Church government led to democracy in the political government.
Thank you Gustavo for making with post harder for me, but on positive note at least your going to pass for this well sized paragraph.
DeleteThey COULD farm in the 13 colonies but it was just that they had SHORT growing seasons.
DeleteThe Factors that helped shape the Middle Colonies:
ReplyDeleteE- Feritle soil and broad expanse of land gave way for crop cultivation while rivers helped with fur trade, commerce and growth of sea ports. The big forest gave the resources for lumbering and shipbuilding.
S- The good ethical mixture, religious tolerance and democratic control made the middle colonies a very peaceful place to live and work in.
P- These colonies were the ones who most had an American personality because they had their own local goverment and churches. They were more independant of the mother country and therefore had time to impliment their own ideas of the way of life.
The location of the middle colonies was also a big factor in their success because they were between the other two increasing the oportunity of commerce between the colonies.
I like the way you seperated economis, politics and social. It made it alot easier for me to distinguish between everything.:)
DeleteSouthern
ReplyDeleteE- there were many economical changes in the south, but the ones that impacted them the most was slavery and the production of tobacco.
S- The south was mainly dominated by the Anglican Religion. Most families lived on plantations along with their family and slaves. Due to diseases, the average man could only live to be 40 years old.
P- The south had a strong central government and was governed by an England governor. This was the type of political structure the Anglican's were used to and preferred.
i agree with you and i like the way you included the anglican religion
DeleteThe middle colonies in some ways were the American part of America, could claim certain distinctions in their own right. However, they were more ethnically mixed than that of other settlements and the people were socially blessed with an unusual degree of religious toleration and democratic control. An economical point is that the middle colonies had a surprising amount of industry. Virginal forests abounded for lumbering and shipbuilding.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget about the fact that the middle colonies had vast lands which helped them boost the economy, and of course the demand for cheap labor.
DeleteIn the middle colonies large families lived together on a farmland as well. Trading manufatured items also helped boost the economy.
DeleteThe New England colonies unable to use the soil had to use the sea to make money, mainly in the Triangle Trade system where they trade rum, food stuffs, and tobacco then received slaves and other materials from Britain. Socially that separated themselves from the rest was that they were more concerned with education so they opened colleges which were religion-based. Which was reflected on in their political views and form of government.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you john the focused on education instead of agriculture like the rest
DeleteI agree with you, as the other colonies were focusing on manual labor, the New England colonies were focusing more on the intelligence part of it.
DeleteI agree with your point on their political views reflecting their beliefs and probably even their religion.
DeleteThe middle colonies had very good soil and crops that helped shaped their colony! Economically they would grow crops and grains, they eventually turned into the "bread basket". They had seaports that helped with the trading along rivers. Socially they were independent and had their own religion going on. They were religious tolerated which made them stronger as a colony socially. Since these colonies were in a good location in the middle and made trade way easier politically they became stronger because of all the major water routes around.
ReplyDeleteYea the major water routes played a big role in how much trade they would get. Believe it or not traveling/trading by water was much faster then land so it really was a huge plus for them.
DeleteNew England colonies in my opinion were stuck in doing thins socially to get food and trade since their land wasn't fertile. However they also were brave enough to start wars and smart to take startegic points from.France like louisbourg in the war of Jenkins ear.
ReplyDeleteEconomically the Middle Colonies had rich soil, therefore the are became a major exporter of lumber, wheat, and other grains. It became know as the "Bread Basket Colonies". The rivers also helped them with being able to travel and being able trade.
ReplyDeleteSocially they were very religous. New arrivals came with different religions which were protected by written freedom of religion laws. It was very peaceful.
Politically they had their own government. They created colonial councils. They also saw as everyone equal in God's eyes. Women were allowed to assume some leadership positions.
Middle colonies
ReplyDeleteE- The Middle Colonies had rich soil, allowing the area to become a major exporter of wheat and other grains. The lumber and shipbuilding industries enjoyed success in the Middle Colonies, and Pennsylvania saw moderate success in the textile and iron industry. The Middle Colonies were the most ethnically diverse British colonies in North America, with settlers coming from all parts of Europe.
S- Civil unrest in Europe and other colonies saw an influx of immigrants to the Middle Colonies in the 18th century. With the new arrivals came various religions which were protected in the Middle Colonies by written freedom of religion laws. This tolerance was unusual and distinct from other British colonies.
P- The Middle Colonies were generally run by Royal or Proprietary Governors and elected Colonial Assemblies. Many Middle Colony constitutions guaranteed freedom of religion and forbade taxation without representation. Royal governors were arrested or overthrown on more than one occasion, most notably when New Jersey arrested its governor and during Leisler's Rebellion in New York. Growing unrest in the Middle Colonies eventually led the region to become the meeting place for the Continental Congress, and a center for revolution. However, there were numerous pockets of neutrals and Loyalists.
I really liked how you went into deth with each. I found it easy to understand and I also agree with everything, especically the political factors because you gave many examples.
DeleteMiddle colonies
ReplyDeleteE- Middle colonies had good land and good climate to grow corn, vegetables, grain, and fruit. They also had good amount of iron ore in their land to make tools, nails, plows, and kettles.
S- Middle colonies were very ethnically diverse and had more religious diversity than the other colonies. Many immigrants settled in the middle colonies. There was no single church or religion that dominated in the middle colonies.
P- The middle colonies were run by elected colonial assemblies and royal or proprietary govners. The middle colony constitutions garanteed freedom of religion and no taxation without representation.
The Middle Colonies also known as the "Middle Way Colonies" or "Bread Basket Colonies" included New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. The Middle Colonies were part industrial and part agriculture. They did have fertile soil and grew many grains such as wheat. They also had many industries such as shipbuilding, textile industries, and papermaking industries.
ReplyDeleteSocially, they formed for religious reasons. Because of all the religious reformations forming and taking control of England,(Protestant Reformation, Calvinism, etc.) they decided to leave and seek religious freedom where they could practice their own religion and beliefs. Many people who felt the same way were able to join them as they formed.
Politically, they had democratic control. They were a "self-government". Although they started out small, they soon grew into large organizations led by elected governors.
I really agree with you. I couldn't have said it better myself. You should've included how they helped with the mercantile system.
DeleteSouthern Colonies
ReplyDeleteE- based on plantations and slavery, main crops that were grown were Indigo, Tobacco, Wheat, and Rice, easy irrigation from nearby rivers
S- there was Slavery, men had more power than women, and Farming
P- The political structure of the southern colonies were mainly based on slavery, plantations far from each other
The New England colonies struggled more than the southern and middle colonies when it came to their economy. Environmental factors impacted agriculture greatly. Therefore, farming was not an option because of geography and climate. So, the New England Colonies depended on their natural resources in order to make a living. Also, unlike the southern and middle colonies, the new England colonies imported agricultural goods more than exported.
ReplyDeleteAna Mendoza
i agree new england colonies had to work harder than the other colonies for their economy
DeleteI agree with Ana , the New England Colonies depended mostly on trade with other countries , mainly England . They later on became mostly depended on the Triangular Trade.
DeleteThe New England Colonies
ReplyDeleteE- The economic side of it was from small farms, lumber, and fishing. Major industries was for shipping and the triangular trade.
S- The social side of it was founded for religious freedom and the towns people had to do more labor for the growing industries.
P- The political side of it was that it was somewhat in tact with England's government and religion kind of has a toll on it.
The New England colonies included Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. Economically, majority of items the people used were taxed. They also depended on long distant trade with other colonies Socially, religion was one of the main priorities for the New England Colonies. They had the “New England Way” to test whose beliefs qualified to become a church member from what I have read. Education and rights were also other priorities. This also ties in with the political shaping of the region. The people would fight for their independence for a democratic government which was based on religious views many times and tried to stabilize church and state lines.
ReplyDeleteI'm choosing to post about the Middle Colonies.
ReplyDeleteThe middle colonies consisted of New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. When contrasting The Middle Colonies with the New England and Southern Colonies, you'd see that in New England colonies, the rocky soil made large agriculture extremely difficult. And the Southern COlonies were dominated by the Plantation/Slave System. The Middle Colonies had fertile land. Land in the middle colonies were easy to acquire to grow various items needed. The middle colonies also was VERY important to the mercantile system. Their central location provided them with an advantage!
I agree with eric about how the colonies agricultural systems were set up and the benefits, that some had over others but I feel that he shouldve added more details about the social and political factors that were also included because, the economy is probably the, easiest to know about
DeleteThe Southern Colonies included North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, and Maryland. The Southern Colonies had very good land which made lots of profit. They grew mostly tabacco, and also rice and indigo, they were grown on plantations which some farmers bought slaves to help picking crops. They were basically ran by themselves and their government wasn't quite so strong.
ReplyDeleteSouthern Colonies in my opinion were cruel because of the slavery.I think they got slaves because they didnt knew how to do hard work as the slaves did.
DeleteNo they got slaves because it was the cheapest way to get the job done.
DeleteIn comparison to the middle and southern colonies , the New England Colonies depended upon the Atlantic Trade Network , since the climate and location of the land did not allow them to provide cash crops. Their economy depended mainly on the English homeland and West African slave coast . The New England colonies could not provide much for their homeland beyond fish and furs. Nevertheless the New Englanders built a thriving mercantile network and a shipbuilding system since they mostly use fishing boats. They came dependent upon trade that only ships could produce at the time . They soon begun to profit mightily from England rather than just supplying the Mother Country . Until English government imposed an unfavorable trade balance on the New England Colonies by raising duties against major colonial exports like fish . This meant that the colonies were forced to buy more from their Mother Country , England than what they were able to sell back .This later on lead to the major problem of taxation without representation .
ReplyDeleteOne of the most significant factors in shaping the character of the New England colonies were the rich resources including timber which were needed in the building of homes and ships. While the other colonies were mostly farming, the New England colonies were cutting timber and they would send it back to England where there was a shortage in timber.
ReplyDeleteThe New England Colonies
ReplyDeleteOne of the most significant economic factors in shaping the 13 colonies was how the new england clonies had a hard time with their agriculture. New England did not have firtile land. Their land was mostly hills and rocky soil. They had a cold climate and short growing seasons. This made more difficult to farm due to their poor soil. The people would starve and the government had to do something to stop their people from dying. They found a solution, the "Cash Crop." New England colonies started to depend on the other colonies for resources since they were low of them. They began using the few resources they did have like tiomber, to start building ships to be able to go from one colony to the other. One of their major resources was fish since they lives near shore the also used their ships to go fishing to provide the people with food. Trading united the colonies and created cultural diffusion since the people in the ships would talk to one another and exchanged goods.
A significant social reason was religion. King Henry had just outlawed the catholic church and had created an uprising to the people who were catholic. Everyone now had to be Protestants or they died. There was no religious freedom or tolerence. The people began to search for religious freedom else were. This shapped the colonies by creating different points of views and creting laws to help the situtation. All these actions led to the politcal view of what must get done for the better of the colony. New england also focused much on education.
yes i agree with her social reasons because just by a change of religion or being introduce to a new religion can impact the political structure drastically and change to form different points of vies on religious freedoms and tolerance.
DeleteThe New England colonies were impacted by both environment and religion.
ReplyDeleteE- The New England colonies were placed in much different circumstances than the Middle and Southern Colonies. They were located at a higher latitude causing their northern land to lack arable land. They in turn sought other ways of making a profit. One of these ways was trading with the natives to recieve furs that were in high demand in England. Consequently as they searched for these furs they stumbled across a great many forests. This became the beginning of the lumber trade in New England. This along with the large fishing industry were some economical factors
S- The New England colonies were created by those of Puritan faith. It is only reasonable that the Puritan faith is at the core of their social life. In fact the Puritans put into effect laws that built schools so that everyone was was able to read the BIBLE. They were very critical and attempted to do away with sin. All in all they were extremely religious and those who weren't were cast off or ridiculed.
P- Religion, once more plays a role, in the New England Colonies. They were governed by Puritans for Puritanism. They eventually adopt the concept of the General Court. The only people who could serve in it however were free man that were church members.
I conclude that the New England colonies were shaped predominantly by religion.
Religion was a huge factor. It shaped how the colonies were. It connected with political and economical circumstances.
DeleteI agree very strongly with Celia. The New England colonists had to make a living somehow. Their land wasn't as arable and the middle and southern colonies
DeleteIn the middle colonies there was much progression in social and economical statures statures. They did many things like lumbering, shipbuilding and none the less manufacturing. All these factors lead to an increase in population especially in New York. The middle colonies soon began becoming an industrial life which thrived and succeded in becoming the most developed.
ReplyDeleteNew England Colony
ReplyDeleteE- Though the soil in the New England colony was rocky and hard that did not stop the people for creating an economy that focused more on there harbors, fishing, hunting, and trading. Since they were becoming experts in cutting down timber the people of this colony also began becoming experts in shipbuilding and commerce. Livestock also became very popular. There werent always the best advantages for the people because the climate was a major impact on their economy because the winters were cruelly cold and the summers unbelievably hot.
S- black saves were trying to be used like that of other colonies but the bad soil and climate made it very much impossible to make any profit from crops. New England wasnt as diverse as any of the other colonies because of there soil and climate many europeans decided not to land or stay there anymore. With the leaving of those people also came a benefit because those who lefy New England took the New England ways along with them in places from Ohio to Oregon even hawaii.
P- Puritans were in control and were adopting puritanism. Puritans ran their own churches, and democracy in congregational church government led logically to democracy in political government. a new form of sermon began to be heard from puritan, jeremaid, and a new fornula for church membership, the half-way convention. This modified the covenant , agreement between church and adherents.
The southern colonies ,as we all know, had widely depended on cash crops. I really hate to point out the obvious but that lead to things such as slavery. With that being said the triangular trade came into place bringing about many slaves. I only emphasize this because of how much of an effect it had on our history. Considering the death toll from the civil war was the highest we have ever had so far its something people should really think about. Anyway there was a very distinct line between being somebody and nobody since if you were to poor to actually go to america you had to be rich. That meant the people were mostly laborers or ignorant rich white men who ,for some odd reason, thought there had an abundance of gold. They would end up finding fertile land which was just as good. Last but not least political wise the southern colonies had very little power. New England would continue to highly influence these colonies. That meant a lot of old traditions stuck around for a long time leaving its mark even to this day.
ReplyDeleteThe Southern Colonies:
ReplyDeleteThe Southern Colonies were known for their massive plantations. These plantations where run by rich, white men who owned slaves, who would work all day in the tobacco, rice, and indigo fields. Their fertile land was mantained very good which made lots of profit for their colony. These profits came mostly from tabacco, wheat, rice, and indigo. The Southern colonies political structure was mainly based on slavery and their plantations.
E:They made most of their money by selling the crops they grew(The Slaves GREW)
S:The south didn't have that big of a population. They Brought slaves to do most of their work in the fields.
P:Most Population wasfarmers with slaves so politicly , farmers made their own decisions since slaves had no word or opinion on anything.
I agree because the south produced a lot of goods yet it was poor due to most of the population were slaves and their owners.
DeleteThe New England colonies are said to have been founded for the opportunity of religious freedom. People there with different ideas wanted to spread them out to other people. There was some conflicts like the one between the church of England and the puritans trying to fix what they didn't like about the church. One of the most known political factors was the mayflower compact, which was an agreement to
ReplyDeletemake laws and rules with almost everyone's agreement. These colonies could not be based on agriculture but were based on fish, trees and furs. They made water power and built sawmills and grain mills, encouraged shipbuilding, also promoting trade.
In my opinion The Middle Colonies shaped the colonies more than the others. Known as the Middle Way the Middle Colonies were fertile like the south and the manufacturing was like the south. There was a diverse population including purtitans, slaves, etc. They held town meetings like the southern colonies but they weren't as scattered around. The middle colonies werevery successful
ReplyDeleteWell put, also they were very successful in their economic endeavors by their strong agricultural profits. Through their trading and manufactured goods, they experienced a boost in economy.
DeleteIn the Southern colonies the rich people with the most slaves had the most political power. the southern colonies were financially stable because the slaves were use to harvest crops so the people of the colonies could make a profit and they were socially classed as either the superiors (the rich) or the inferiors (the poor/slaves).
ReplyDeleteVery true but there was still a middle group that owned at least so me form of free manual labor. Agriculture was the primary factor that helped them become financially stable.
DeleteThe Southern colonies helped shape most of the colonies due to manual and physical labor. They were the most agricultural based colonies because of the fertile soil. They worked slaves day in and day out for cash crops like tobacco and cotton. Thus the power was mainly given to the rich plantation owners. However most of the population were slaves due to the high demand of manual labor on the fields.
ReplyDeleteThey did have a lot of slaves at the time and influenced most of the colonies to get slaves. THey were both cheap and hardworking which was a good thing because they can produce product much quicker.
DeleteOne Of The Most Significant Factor In The Southern Colonies Was The Social Structure Of The Region. Wealthy Planters Owned Much Of The Settled Land. In A Time The Planters Imported About 100,000 poor Young English Men And Women Through A System Called Indentured Servitude. In Return For Their Voyage Across The Atlantic, Food, Shelter, And The Promise Of 50 Acres Of Land, these Servants Agreed To Work 4 Years For The Planters. However a majority Of These Servants Died During Their Time Of Service Due To Primarily Disease. Only One-Half Of Those Who Survived Were Able To Become Land Owners. The Rest Worked As Tenant Farmers Or Wage Laborers.
ReplyDeleteThe social life in the southern colonies differed from when it was first established. In the beginning, whites were slaves that worked on tobacco plantaions. But as the plantations became more abundant, more laborers were needed to work on these farms. Thus, the Africans came into the picture. They were sold to landowners which were usually white. This then caused the whites to move up in social class, and usually some became richer and got more chances of owning land. Eventually, the black slaves became majority of the population. This also led to mingle of cultural elements.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with this, however we must remember that the rise of indentured servants to landowners was not instantaneous and also that it did not usually happen very often. However the African slaves did make up a majority of the population in the south.
DeleteThe Factor that most impacted New England was their way of life. They were very family oriented, strict to beliefs, nothing less. They were also more organized having their society grow in a more orderly fashion. New towns were legally chartered by the colonial authorities and the distribution of land was entrusted to the steady hands of the Proprietors.
